Okay, yes, I know... a bit out there... okay, TOTALLY out there. But sometimes as I'm looking through a "roll" there are pictures that just pop for one reason or another and I've learned to pay attention to that gut reaction. Er Hmmm, not sure I'd have the guts to present this to a client, but as this is my Godson, I'm allowed some leeway. It's just... I think... that this somehow shows Wesley's spirit somehow...

I can't say I got great pictures of Johanna this day, but I do love the detail shot above... and I feel like the picture below is at least cute enough to be a "personality shot"... in which she is saying, "Yeah, I remember you and your black snapping box. You're sweet... in your own loony way. I will put up with you...for a moment."

Again... tough event to shoot... indoor, crap for light... lots of little kids moving around... o my...

But I came away with a few winners!

Adrea: Sooooo Close

Have you ever seen the blog - cake-wrecks? I've been thinking I should have a section of photo-wrecks on my personal blog... only it be my own work not people I've found (though believe me I'm snobby enough to swing it).

To be a photo-wreck in my opinion, it can be... just a dreadful idea, or awfully executed, or good-intentioned but failing awfully in some way OR... the most DREADED of all photo-wrecks for ME personally - the "SOOOO close to perfection" wreck.

The series of photos of Wesley and Julia are like that. They were SO cute. But my 50mm is out at the shop and I was using an unfamiliar lens and... excuses, excuses, the photos are most focused at Wesley's KNEE. UGH, TRAGEDY!!! SO I wasn't going to post them. (even though I know most of you can't tell and don't care, I can tell and I care.)

Then, I thought, well, if clarity isn't possible (not even photoshop can really truly take a fuzzy photo and make it razor sharp)... then I can artsy it up to the point where clarity isn't my focus (no pun intended). I still wouldn't submit it in my portfolio, but I feel like I salvaged enough to be happy with.

There are few events more difficult than people indoors on a dreary day... sitting, eating and talking... I had my work cut out for me... I knew it before I arrived... but documentation was key...

In my defense: Yes I know it's another Wesley / Abby kissing picture. But as you'll note from the last one - I have never quite gotten one that has worked with the right light/angle, that sort of thing. In fact the Abby/Wesley HUGGING picture has been something I've been after since the two learned how to hug. This is the first time I've gotten both faces PLUS nice light, PLUS nice clothes, PLUS nice location. I can rest now... of course it would just be awesome if I could have Abby's hair nicely done... but there are years yet before they get to embarrassed.... or maybe just days...

Very few things compare to the connection between instrument and musician...

I've wanted to photograph Reece at every small group meeting we've had since she was a baby - she just has those beautiful blue eyes and reddish hair and funnest little BIG personality. Not to mention the cutest pout known on Earth.
